This increased risk was independent of socio-demographic or pre-existing medical conditions and applied to a broad range of infections, including respiratory, urological, and hospital-acquired infections.<\/p>\n<p>Heart failure, defined as the <strong>inability of the heart to pump blood efficiently<\/strong>, was observed in both forms: <strong>heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)<\/strong> and <strong>heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)<\/strong>. The study particularly emphasized the link between infections and HFpEF, which is more common in elderly individuals. <em>&#8220;These are findings that we should pay attention to,&#8221;<\/em> stated <strong>Sean Cody<\/strong>, deputy chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at the <strong>National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute<\/strong> of the NIH.<\/p>\n<p>Although the study does not establish a direct <strong>cause-and-effect<\/strong> relationship, it underscores the importance of infection prevention through vaccination and hygiene. <div class=\"su-quote su-quote-style-default\"><div class=\"su-quote-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">&#8220;Patients at increased risk of cardiovascular disease should see their doctor to discuss possible risk reduction strategies,&#8221; advised Ryan Demmer, professor of epidemiology at the Mayo Clinic.<\/div><\/div>\u00a0Further research could lead to the integration of infection history into heart failure risk assessment and the development of targeted therapies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has confirmed that individuals hospitalized for severe infections, including respiratory illnesses and sepsis, face a significantly higher long-term risk of developing heart failure.
